How to Locate a Healthy, Hiring Employer
When you are searching for a new job do your homework. One of the easiest ways to determine if a company is hiring is to go to www.indeed.com. Indeed.com is a website consolidator and brings in the majority of job banks on the Internet.
Next, input the key words (nouns and noun phrases) which describe your position title such as sales, sales management, account executive. Then input your city and state of interest and how far you are willing to travel. Voila! On the left side of the Indeed page you can see how many companies have posted job openings in your salary range and in your areas of interest. Finding these companies will give you an idea of who is hiring and is posting job openings. To find out if a company is healthy go to the company website and look at their financials, if posted. Read recent news articles on the site and google the company for more information.
It is true that this Indeed method will not usually uncover jobs in the hidden (unadvertised) job market. What can you do to uncover other hiring and healthy employers with hidden jobs?

I would also suggest to be proactive to locate employers hiring that you read about in the local business paper, ours is Atlanta Business Chronicle and you will notice which employers are moving to Atlanta. It usually lists the number of new employees that will be hired. You can then check out their website for financials and other information. See if open positions are listed on the website and if so apply. If not, find out the name of the person (on the site or through a phone call) who would logically hire for your position and send your resume with a strong cover letter. Always call back after you send the resume.

William, I totally agree with you. Local news media announces new employers moving to and expanding in your town or region, and proactively contacting a company is an excellent job search technique. Check out the companies moving into your area.

My most recent networking technique for my clients has been for my clients to locate open postions of interest through indeed and linked in. Next, through my connections of past clients,I set up a lunch or coffee between the three of us.

Thank you for responding. At our last contact, my client had several in person interviews, but the client was stalling on making a decision.
